SC Dismisses Sisodia’s Plea Seeking Quashing of Criminal Defamation filed by Assam CM Himanta

Himanta Biswa Sharma. Manish Sisodia

The Supreme Court Monday dismissed Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s plea
seeking quashing of the proceedings of a criminal defamation case against him by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appeared for Manish and said “You cannot use authority like this to browbeat. We never alleged she received money.

Then Justice Sanjay Kaul observed that Once you reduce public discourse to this level , you have to face the consequences. You should have put an unconditional apology.

Singhvi replies and argued that I said it first part of contract, then you later said it was charity after it was in public domain.

What does it mean ‘Assam ki CM ki biwi ke bhrastachar ka kaccha chittha’, SC Said

Instead of realising what the country is going through, you are just making statements. Somebody in those urgent times, tried to work out. If you feel you are entitled, argue (there),Justice Kaul said

SC asked Singhvi” You want to withdraw?
I should be allowed to argue this there, Singhvi said

The Supreme court in its order said “as the petitioner states to bring these contentions at the stage of notice (in the lower court). Dismissed as withdrawn”

Earlier on November 7, The  Gauhati high court had dismissed Manish Sisodia’s plea and said “ he has not been able to make out any case for quashing the lower court case.”

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has filed a defamation case against Manish in Kamrup district chief judicial magistrate’s court alleging that Manish in a press conference in New Delhi on June 4 accused him of indulging in corruption while supplying PPE kits in the state in 2020.
