The Supreme Court on Monday sought the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) response on a bail plea filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh in a money-laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta issued a notice to the federal agency concerning the plea. Singh has challenged the Delhi High Court’s refusal to grant him bail in the case.
The bench aligned the bail plea with another plea filed by Singh, wherein he challenges his arrest and remand in the money-laundering case.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing the AAP leader, requested the issuance of a notice on the bail plea and urged for the alignment of both pleas with the pending matter. Singhvi stated that the pending matter is scheduled for a hearing on March 5, hence both matters should be addressed together. The bench consented to the request, confirming that both pleas would be heard together.
On February 7, the high court dismissed Singh’s bail application. Singh, who has been re-elected to the Rajya Sabha from Delhi, was directed by the high court to expedite the trial once initiated. Singh was apprehended by the ED in connection to the case on October 4, 2023.
