EC files Affidavit in SC, Succeeds to Curb on Money Power in Election Process

The Election Commission on Thursday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court claiming that it has succeeded in curbing the election expenses of the parties. The Election Commission has said in its affidavit that it is taking measures to eliminate the problem of money power in elections. The Commission added that the seizure of money has increased as compared to earlier.
The commission further added that the expenditure observers and monitoring teams are doing a good job. In the affidavit, the Election Commission stated that one of the reasons for the high seizure today is due to the increased vigilance and efforts of the Commission. The Election Commission also said that it has adopted various measures from time to time to prevent the menace of money power in elections and will continue to do so in the future to prevent excessive use of money power.
The Election Commission has filed this affidavit on the PIL filed in the Supreme Court seeking actions along with a comprehensive plan to curb excessive election expenditure by political parties and candidates and action against errant candidates and parties.
