High Stakes: Supreme Court Petition Demands SIT Probe into Sandeshkhali Sting Operation

A plea before the Supreme Court urges a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe to verify a sting operation video concerning the Sandeshkhali incident, involving allegations of rape and sexual assault. The footage allegedly implicates Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh, suggesting political manipulation by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. Senior Advocate Meneka Guruswamy highlighted the case before Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta.

The Supreme Court directed to review the request for listing and issue suitable orders. Filed through advocate Udayaditya Banerjee, a woman’s application stated that women in Sahdeshkhali were coerced into signing blank papers, leading to false rape accusations against TMC leaders. The plea sought the formation of a Special Investigation Team, overseen by the Supreme Court, to conduct an independent inquiry into the matter due to its sensitivity and to determine the ground reality.

The plea urges the Court to scrutinize a video exposing the influence on constitutional authorities and investigating agencies. It emphasizes the need for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a court-monitored independent forensic investigation of the audio and video. Given the sensitive nature of the issue, the submission emphasizes the importance of the Court reviewing the attached YouTube video to understand how authorities were manipulated into orchestrating protests.
