Kidnapping Case: SC Upholds Bhavani Revanna’s Anticipatory Bail

The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined for setting aside the anticipatory bail granted to Bhavani Revanna, mother of suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, in a kidnapping case related to allegations against her son.

The Bench comprising of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan issued a notice to Revanna on the Karnataka government’s appeal challenging the Karnataka High Court’s order.

“The accused is a 55-year-old woman. There are serious allegations against her son. In such cases, what is the role of a mother in abetting her son’s actions?” the bench questioned senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the Karnataka government’s Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Sibal argued that granting relief to Bhavani Revanna was unfortunate, emphasizing that the victim had been kept in captivity under the family’s instructions.

The bench cautioned against politicizing the matter, noting, “There is nothing… Let us not politicize the matter.”

Earlier, on June 18, the Karnataka High Court had granted anticipatory bail to Bhavani Revanna, citing her cooperation with the SIT, which had questioned her extensively in connection with the sexual abuse cases involving her son.

The Supreme Court’s decision maintains Bhavani Revanna’s anticipatory bail status as the case progresses.
