Misleading Advertisement: SC Issues Notice to Baba Ramdev to Appear In person

Baba Ramdev Supreme Court

The Supreme Court summoned Baba Ramdev to appear personally before it for failing to respond to a contempt notice concerning misleading advertisements of Patanjali Ayurved. Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna appear to have breached Sections 3 and 4 of the Drugs and Remedies Act.

Previously, the apex court criticized Patanjali Ayurved, stating that the nation had been deceived. It prohibited the company from promoting or labeling products for disease treatment until further notice.

Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah cautioned the company and its officials against making any media statements, in print or electronic formats, against any medical system, as per their commitment on November 21 of the previous year.

“The entire country has been deceived,” remarked the bench, while questioning the government about its actions regarding Patanjali Ayurved’s allegedly false claims and misrepresentation in advertisements regarding the curative properties of its medicines.
