NEET PG: SC Grants Relief To Candidate Denied Admission Despite Paying Rs 27 Lakhs Fee

The Supreme Court has recently intervened to ensure his admission to a medical college despite a delay in reporting.

The candidate had paid a hefty fee of Rs 27 lakh but was denied admission due to procedural delays.

Court’s Interim Order Grants Last-Minute Relief

A bench of Justices KV Viswanathan and N Kotiswar Singh directed ICARE Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Haldia, to allow the petitioner to attend classes starting June 26. The order came after the college refused admission, citing a delay in reporting beyond the March 20, 2025 deadline.

“The petitioner being duly counselled and having paid fees on or before 20.03.2025 should be permitted to attend the college in the seat allotted. We direct that respondent No.9-College to which the petitioner has been allotted a seat to permit him to attend the classes from tomorrow onwards,” the Court ordered.

Dispute Over Admission Delay

The petitioner, allotted a seat in M.S. (General Surgery) under the Private Management Quota, claimed the delay was due to the college demanding additional fees. However, the college contended that the candidate failed to produce an MCC card.

Despite the dispute, the Supreme Court noted that the petitioner had legitimately cleared counselling, secured the seat, and paid the required fee before the deadline. With the seat still vacant, the Court ruled in his favor.

Court’s Earlier Rejection Overturned

The Calcutta High Court had earlier dismissed the plea, citing the missed reporting deadline. The Supreme Court’s intervention now ensures the candidate can pursue his medical studies without further hurdles.
