New history in Supreme Court, trial version of RTI launched

Now it is easy for ccommoners to know what is happening in Supreme Court of India. Common people can file applications under RTI and get desired information.

The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday activated a test version of an online portal. This portal can be used by public to file applications under the Right to Information Act (RTI Act) in relation to the apex court.
The final version of the website will go active in another 5 days.

The portal registry.sci.gov.in/rti_app can be used only by Indian citizens to file RTI application, first appeal and to make payment for fees, copying charges, etc, under the RTI Act.

The applicant can pay the prescribed fee through internet banking, credit-debit card of Master-Visa or UPI. Fee for making an RTI application is ₹10 per application.

Until the launch of the portal, RTI applications to the Supreme Court had to be filed physically through post office.

Various public interest litigation petitions had been filed before the Supreme Court seeking an online RTI portal for the Court.

During the hearing of one such plea last week, a bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli had said that the portal would be rolled out soon.
