PIL Filed Before SC To Let President Inaugurate New Parliament

A PIL has been filed before the Supreme Court on Thursday seeking directions to the Lok Sabha Secretariat and the Government of India to have the President of India inaugurate the new Parliament.

The petition filed by Supreme Court counsel C.R. Jaya Sukin, stated that the Government of India has “violated the Constitution of India and is not respecting the Constitution” by not including the President in the inaugural event.

“The Indian Parliament is the supreme legislative body. The Indian Parliament is made up of the President, two Houses (the Council of States) and the Lok Rajya Sabha (House of the People). The President has the authority to call and adjourn either House. In addition, the President has the authority to dissolve Parliament or the Lok Sabha.

“The President is an integral part of the Parliament, so why the President is not a part of the inauguration ceremony, this decision of the government is not appropriate,” the petition further stated.
