Vyapam scam whistleblower Dr Anand Rai, arrested in the SC/ST Act case, has been granted bail by the Supreme Court on Friday. While releasing Anand Rai, the Supreme Court said that the lower court would decide the conditions of bail. Opposing the bail plea of Anand Rai, the Madhya Pradesh government has demanded to dismiss the bail plea. The Madhya Pradesh government filed an affidavit saying that, considering the seriousness of the crime and its huge impact on society at large, bail should not be granted.
The government said that Anand Rai has a criminal history and can run away from the process of justice. On Monday, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Madhya Pradesh government. Anand Rai has challenged the order of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, in which the High Court refused to grant bail in a case related to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act.
Last year, on December 12, a single judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Indore denied bail and rejected his appeal under Section 14(a)(2) of the SC/ST Act.
The first information report (FIR) in the case was registered on November 15, 2022, after one Vikas Pargi of Bilpank in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district lodged a complaint under sections 294, 341, 353, 332, 146, 147, 336, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and several sections of the SC/ST Act.
