SC Adjourns IYC President Srinivas’s Anticipatory Bail Hearing To August

The Supreme Court on Monday granted Assam 4 weeks time to file a counter affidavit in response to Indian Youth Congress president BV Srinivas’ plea challenging a Guwahati High Court order that rejected his anticipatory bail application in an alleged harassment case.

Earlier, the apex court provided Srinivas with interim protection against arrest in the case.

During the hearing, the state’s counsel requested additional time to file the counter affidavit, to which the bench of Justices BR Gavai and JB Pardiwala agreed.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Srinivas, affirmed that his client had cooperated with the investigation.

The counsel appearing for the state told the bench that he needed some time to file the counter.

The bench directed the state to file the counter affidavit within four weeks and granted two additional weeks for the petitioner to file a rejoinder.

The matter is scheduled to be heard after six weeks. Previously, the Supreme Court issued notice to the Assam government, seeking its response by July 10.
