SC Agrees To Hear AAP Leader Satyendar Jain’s Bail Plea On May 26

The Supreme Court recently stated that it will hear the petition of former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain seeking bail in a money laundering case on May 26.

The bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Sanjay Karol agreed to list the matter for further hearing on May 26, after senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appeared for Jain, sought urgent listing of the plea regarding health grounds.

On May 18, the apex court sought the response of the Enforcement Directorate on Jain’s plea.

Further, it issued notice to the ED and granted liberty to Jain to move before the vacation bench for relief.

Singhvi then said that the AAP leader has lost 35 kg and had been reduced to a skeleton. He submitted that Jain is suffering from several ailments.

On April 6, the Delhi High Court rejected the bail plea of Jain in the money laundering case noting the witnesses’ claiming that he was the anticipator, initiator, and fund provider in the alleged crime.

Moreover, the high court said that the senior AAP leader was an influential person having the potential to tamper with the evidence.

ED arrested Jain on May 30 last year on the charge of laundering money through 4 companies allegedly linked to him.

The agency arrested Jain in the aftermath of a CBI FIR registered against him in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

On September 6, 2019, the trial court granted him regular bail in the case registered by the CBI.

In 2022, the trial court took cognizance of the prosecution complaint filed by the federal probe agency against Jain, his wife, and 8 others, including the 4 firms, in connection with the money laundering case.

On November 17 last year, the trial court dismissed the bail pleas of Jain and 2 others in the case.

Besides him, the trial court also rejected bail to Vaibhav Jain and Ankush Jain, saying they “knowingly” help Satyendar Jain in hiding the proceeds of the crime and were “prima facie guilty” of money laundering.
