SC Assures AAP Govt on Release of Delhi Jal Board Funds Even After Lapse on Mar 31

Delhi Jal Board

The Supreme Court on Wednesday assured the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government that it could indeed order the release of Rs 3,000 crore funds designated for the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) even after their lapse on March 31.

The AAP government had approached the court seeking the release of funds allocated for the Delhi Jal Board.

A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud along with Justice JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra took cognizance of the arguments put forth by senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing the AAP government, emphasizing the urgency of the matter as the funds allocated for the Delhi Jal Board were set to lapse on March 31.

The bench stated that it would address the plea on April 1. “We will list on April 1 and if we hold anything, a decision can be reversed. No problem,” remarked the CJI, in response to Singhvi’s insistence on hearing the matter on March 21. The senior lawyer highlighted that the budget had been duly passed, yet the funds designated for the DJB were not being released, potentially leading to their lapse.
