SC Collegium Recommends Justice Chandra Dhari Singh’s Return to Allahabad HC

The Supreme Court collegium on Friday has recommended that Justice Chandra Dhari Singh be repatriated from the Delhi High Court to his original posting at the Allahabad High Court.

This decision was made during the collegium’s meetings held on November 28 and 29, 2024.

In its resolution, the collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, officially recommended the transfer of Justice Singh.

The resolution stated, “The Supreme Court Collegium in its meetings held on November 28 and 29, 2024 has recommended the repatriation of Justice Chandra Dhari Singh, judge, High Court of Delhi, to his parent High Court, i.e., the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad.”

Justice Singh has had a notable career in law. He graduated in law from Delhi University in 1993 and was enrolled as an advocate on July 20, 1994. He initially practiced as an advocate-on-record in the Supreme Court, gaining valuable experience.

On September 22, 2017, he was appointed as an additional judge to the Allahabad High Court and became a permanent judge on September 6, 2019.

In October 2021, Justice Singh was transferred to the Delhi High Court. After serving there for over three years, the Supreme Court collegium has now decided to recommend his return to Allahabad, his parent high court.

The collegium’s recommendation is part of the ongoing process of managing judicial assignments across India’s high courts to ensure the smooth functioning of the judicial system. Such decisions are made after careful consideration of the needs of both the judiciary and the individual judges.

If the President of India approves the collegium’s recommendation, Justice Singh will return to the Allahabad High Court, where he began his judicial career. This move underscores his continued contribution to the Indian judiciary as he takes on a significant role back in his home court.
