The Supreme Court on Monday declined to consider a plea filed by the YSR Congress Party challenging the relaxation of postal ballot norms for Andhra Pradesh by the Election Commission (EC).
Justices Aravind Kumar and Sandeep Mehta, sitting on a vacation bench, stated that given the facts and circumstances of the cases, the court was disinclined to interfere with the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s June 1 order.
The party had challenged the high court’s order, which dismissed its petition but allowed it to raise the contentions through an election petition.
The YSR Congress Party had challenged the Election Commission’s May 30 circular, which relaxed the norms of postal ballot attestation for Andhra Pradesh, arguing that it was discriminatory to the state.
