SC Directs CWC to Expedite Decision on Release of Slain Gangster Atiq Ahmad’s Minor Sons

The Supreme Court has recently asked the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to consider and decide on the issue of releasing 2 minor sons of slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad within a week.

A bench comprising of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Aravind Kumar’s direction came while hearing a plea filed by Atiq Ahmad’s sister.

Ahmad’s sister Shahin Ahmad sought custody of the minor children.

Currently, both of them are kept in the reform home. Her lawyer Advocate Nizam Pasha submitted before the court that one of the minors would become an adult soon and be kept in a welfare home.

Also, the court took note of the report which claimed that children didn’t want to stay in the child care home. The court has listed the matter for next week.

Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were shot dead while being in police custody in UP on April 15.

They were being taken for the medical examination and were shot dead by some people near a hospital in Uttar Pradesh.
