SC Disposes Wrestler’s Petition, Says Go to lower Court if any Grievances

The Supreme Court on Thursday disposed off the petition of the wrestlers, making it a big setback to the ace players protesting at Jantar Mantar. The apex court closed the proceedings saying that the FIR has been registered with the Delhi Police, which was the main concern of the wrestlers.  However, the court said that if the petitioners have any other complaints they may move to the appropriate jurisdictional magisterial court or the High Court. The women wrestlers alleged sexual harassment on Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of Wrestling Federation of India.
A bench of CJI DY Chandrachud and justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala closed the proceedings, stating that the purpose of the plea was to register an FIR, which has already been registered.
The bench further said that apart from the registration of FIR, security to all the seven complainants including a minor has been provided.
Senior Advocate Narendar Hooda, petitioner’s counsel objected the closing of the case but the bench refused to entertain the request.
The wrestlers filed a petition demanding the case to be heard by a retired judge but the Supreme Court rejected their petition.
The wrestlers have been on a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi seeking action against the WFI Presidnt Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for alleged sexual harassment of female wrestlers. There are seven complainants including a minor.
The matter reached the Supreme Court after the women wrestlers wanted to lodge an FIR against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh but the Delhi Police did not take any cognizance.
The Delhi Police had told the Supreme Court last week that it will register a FIR in the complaint filed by the wrestlers.
