SC Fines Sukesh Chandrashekhar’s Wife Leena For Frivolous Petition

Sukesh Chandrasekhar

The Supreme Court has fined Leena Paulose, the wife of alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar, Rs 50,000 for filing what it deemed a frivolous petition.

Paulose had approached the court to challenge an October 14 order by the Delhi High Court, which had postponed her bail hearing to November 14.

The top court bench of Justice Bela Trivedi and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, questioned Paulose’s lawyer as to how much should the fine be?

The bench remarked that it was inappropriate to challenge a decision already scheduled for hearing in the High Court.

As the bench indicated it would impose a penalty, Paulose’s lawyer requested to withdraw the petition, citing concerns that the fine could affect the trial.

Bench noted that let it be an obstacle.

Justice Bela M Trivedi said: ‘This must be done. You have the money, but you cannot come here all the time.’

The bench noted that the SC must apply some restraint when such frivolous applications are filed.

The Supreme Court has ordered Paulose to pay the Rs 50,000 fine within two weeks.
