SC Grants AAP Extension to Vacate Offices at Rouse Avenue

The Supreme Court granted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) an extension until June 15, 2024, to vacate its offices at Rouse Avenue, noting that the land was designated for expanding judicial infrastructure for the Delhi High Court.

A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud along with Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra directed AAP to approach the Land And Development Office for alternative office space.

“We urge the L&DO to promptly review the application and provide a decision within four weeks,” the bench stated, emphasizing that AAP lacks a legal entitlement to remain on the premises.

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing AAP, highlighted the party’s national status, arguing for equitable treatment in office allocation.

Singhvi noted, “They are indicating that as a national party, we receive inadequate consideration. I am allocated Badarpur, while others are in more favorable locations.”

Acknowledging the upcoming general elections, the court extended the deadline for AAP’s relocation to June 15, 2024, to facilitate the timely utilization of the land allocated for expanding the district judiciary’s infrastructure.

Previously, the court had directed the Delhi government and the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court to collaborate on removing AAP’s encroachments on the land allotted to the High Court at Rouse Avenue.
