SC Issues Notice To Delhi Police in Amanatullah Khan’s Appeal Against ‘Bad Character’ Listing

Amanatullah Khan

The Supreme Court, on Monday issued notice in the appeal filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Amanatullah Khan challenging the decision of the Delhi Police to list him as a ‘bad character’ and open a ‘history sheet’ against him.

A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Dipankar Datta issued the notice and sought the response of the Delhi Police.

The apex court was hearing Khan’s appeal against a January order issued by the Delhi High Court. Khan, who represents the Okhla constituency of Delhi, approached the High Court seeking the cancellation of the history sheet, claiming that it was issued in violation of the Punjab Police Rules. However, on January 19 of this year, the High Court dismissed the plea after reserving judgment on October 7, 2022.

Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain of the High Court, while rejecting the plea, stated that it was evident from the records that the authorities had adhered to the rules.
