The Supreme Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government regarding Abbas Ansari’s bail plea related to allegedly meeting his wife illegally in Chitrakoot jail.
The bench, comprising Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta, and Ujjal Bhuyan, requested the UP government’s response to Ansari’s plea.
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal represented Abbas Ansari, who filed the petition through Advocate Lzafeer Ahmad BF, challenging the Allahabad High Court’s decision to deny his bail. The High Court’s order was issued on May 1.
Following the alleged illegal meeting incident, Abbas Ansari was transferred to Kasganj jail in February 2023. Seven people, including Ansari’s wife, were arrested in connection with the case. The Supreme Court later granted bail to Ansari’s wife.
