A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday requesting the transfer of all cases related to the Gyanvapi dispute from the District Court and Civil Judge’s Court to the Allahabad High Court.
This move comes from 4 women petitioners who seek the right to darshan and worship at the Gyanvapi complex.
The petitioners argue that their case, along with others claiming the site to be the original temple of Adi Vishveshwar Jyotirlinga, involves significant legal questions that warrant consideration by a higher court.
Currently, there are 15 cases pending in the lower courts of Varanasi concerning issues of darshan and worship at the Gyanvapi complex.
Among these, 9 cases are before the District Judge, while 6 are in the Civil Judge Senior Division.
Petitioner Lakshmi Devi, along with her co-petitioners, contends that the complexities of the issues at hand require resolution by the Allahabad High Court, rather than the lower courts.
This request reflects the growing significance and sensitivity surrounding the Gyanvapi dispute, as the cases address both religious rights and legal interpretations.
