The Supreme Court Collegium recently recommended the transfer of Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar, a judge at the Delhi High Court, to the Rajasthan High Court.
In a resolution posted on the apex court’s website, the Collegium noted that Justice Bhatnagar had sought to remain in Delhi, but his request was denied.
“On 10 August 2023, the Collegium proposed the transfer of Mr. Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar, Judge of the High Court of Delhi, to the Rajasthan High Court, aiming to enhance the administration of justice. Mr. Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar submitted a representation on 16 August 2023, requesting to be retained in Delhi. We have duly considered the request made by Mr. Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar in his representation. The Collegium finds no merit in his request,” the resolution stated.
Prior to formulating this recommendation, the Collegium adhered to the Memorandum of Procedure, consulting Judges of the Supreme Court who possess familiarity with the matters of the Delhi High Court to provide their perspectives on the proposed transfer. Additionally, the Collegium consulted the Chief Justices of the Delhi High Court and the Rajasthan High Court.
