SC Refuses to Entertain Plea Against DMK’s NEET Abolition Campaign in Tamil Nadu

DMK

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to entertain a plea against the DMK’s signature campaign in Tamil Nadu, which aims to eliminate the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for medical college admissions nationwide.

The apex court was hearing a petition urging the state not to permit such activities in schools.

A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and K V Viswanathan noted that competitive examinations conducted on a pan-India basis must take place.

When the petitioner expressed concerns about the distress faced by children in eventually having to undergo the examination, Justice Kant remarked, “Fortunately, now we have a very informed generation. Our children are not so innocent, and now they understand everything.” He added, “They are far ahead of our generation… They understand everything, what is the motive, what is the agenda, how it happens.”

However, the bench opted not to entertain the petition. In October of the previous year, the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu initiated a campaign to collect 50 lakh signatures in 50 days, advocating for the abolition of NEET.
