The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a plea concerning road safety, stating that it cannot oversee the regulation of traffic or the installation of cameras as these falls under “administrative matters.”
The plea was brought before a bench of Justice S K Kaul and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia.
The petitioner’s counsel informed the bench that the plea pertains to road safety and alleged that the states were not properly implementing the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The bench then asked whether the petitioner wanted the court to manage the entire motor vehicle system and supervise matters like traffic regulation and camera installation. The bench emphasized that these issues are “administrative matters.”
The court noted that the petitioner seemed to be seeking the involvement of every state in the matter. It questioned the purpose of such an approach and whether it was necessary to call all states before the court for this issue.
Ultimately, the bench expressed its disinclination to entertain the petition.
The petitioner’s counsel then sought permission to withdraw the plea. The bench granted the request and dismissed the petition.
