The Supreme Court on Thursday has issued a notice on a petition filed by Bollywood choreographer Remo D’Souza, challenging the Allahabad High Court’s order in a fraud case.
The Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to respond within 4 weeks.
The case pertains to an FIR filed by a Ghaziabad businessman Satyandra Tyagi against Remo in December 2016, alleging that Remo had convinced him to invest ₹5 crore in his film “Amar Must Die”.
Tyagi claimed that Remo assured him the money would be returned within a year.
However, when Tyagi demanded his investment back after the year had passed, he alleges that Remo threatened him through underworld don Prasad Pujari.
The police have charged Remo D’Souza and Prasad Pujari under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 386 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code. Following this, the trial court issued a summons for Remo to appear.
Remo then filed a petition in the High Court, but the court rejected his plea.
The Supreme Court, however, has now declined to stay the ongoing proceedings in the lower court, refusing Remo’s request to halt the trial.
