The Supreme Court has recently set up a new five-judge Constitution bench, led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud, to hear four cases starting from July 12, 2023.
After the summer vacation that commenced on May 22, the top court will resume proceedings on July 3, 2023.
Alongside the CJI, the Constitution bench will include Justice Hrishikesh Roy, Justice P S Narasimha, Justice Pankaj Mithal, and Justice Manoj Misra, as stated in a notice issued by the assistant registrar (listing).
The first case to be considered by the Constitution bench on July 12 is titled “Tej Prakash and others versus Rajasthan High Court.”
The Top Court is expected to address a legal question regarding whether state entities can modify eligibility rules after the commencement of a selection process for a public employment.
Previously, the matter was listed before a five-judge Constitution bench led by Justice Indira Banerjee, and following her retirement, a new bench was constituted. Subsequently, the Constitution bench will take up three additional cases.
