SC To Hear Petition On Alleged Fake Encounter Killings In Assam

Fake Encounter Killings In Assam

The Supreme Court is set to hear a petition regarding an independent investigation into alleged fake encounter killings in Assam.

The matter will be heard by a bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan.

The petitioners are requesting the registration of FIRs for murder against police personnel accused of involvement in these alleged encounters.

In response to the accusations, the Assam government has previously submitted an affidavit defending its police officers, asserting that only 10% of fleeing criminals have been injured in police actions over the past decade, and these incidents were described as acts of self-defense.

Additionally, victims of the alleged encounters have filed their own affidavits, recounting incidents from December 23, 2023, when they were apprehended. They claim to have links with the United Liberation Front of Assam-I, highlighting the complex nature of the situation.

Court’s upcoming hearing will address these serious allegations and the call for accountability within the state’s law enforcement.
