SCBA writes to CJI, ‘My Lord it is a Matter of Lives and Livelihood of Supreme Court Bar Members’

SCBA writes to CJI over adjournment of petitions relating to SCBA housing and allotment of land for Supreme court lawyers.

Letter says “these are matters concerning the ‘lives and livelihood’ of the Members of SCBA and non-hearing of these matters is a serious concern. SCBA being equal stakeholder in the institution of justice dispensation cannot be construed as stranger in asserting the listing and hearing of a matter related to welfare of its members, in ordinary course. However, by declining the request made by SCBA for hearing of the matters, SCBA is being treated worse than an ordinary litigant.”

In the letter, the SCBA reminded the CJI about a writ petition, seeking direction to the Ministry of Urban Development to allow conversion of land use and construct more than 1000 chamber blocks for lawyers. SCBA said many times but till now the matter has not been heard, the next date has been given on 3rd February.
