“Scrapping NEET-UG 2024 Not Rational, Will Jeopardise Interest Of Honest Candidates”: Centre Tells SC

The Centre on Friday has defended that the NEET-UG 2024 examination before the Supreme Court, arguing against its cancellation, which it claimed would unfairly harm thousands of honest candidates.

Responding to petitions from candidates, coaching institutes, and parents, the Union Ministry of Education submitted an affidavit. It stated that the government has directed the CBI to conduct a thorough investigation into alleged irregularities.

The affidavit highlighted that while concerns have been raised, there is no substantial evidence of widespread breach of confidentiality in the national-level exam. Therefore, scrapping the entire examination and its results, which have already been declared, would not be justified, the Centre asserted.

It emphasized the need to balance the rights of candidates who took the exam honestly against allegations of irregularities. The Centre argued that cancelling the exam would unjustly jeopardize the futures of lakhs of sincere candidates who participated in the 2024 test.

The Supreme Court is set to hear various petitions on July 8, which include demands for a fresh exam due to alleged irregularities during the May 5 examination. The controversy, involving accusations of paper leaks, has sparked protests in multiple cities and triggered political debates.
