The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday strongly condemned the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a ‘diabolical act of mindless violence’ that has shaken the nation’s conscience.
In a unanimous resolution, the top court expressed deep anguish over the incident and paid tribute to those who lost their lives. “This Court strongly condemns the attack on tourists, who were merely enjoying the natural beauty of the Crown Jewel of India. Kashmir is undoubtedly an affront to the values of humanity and the sanctity of life,” the resolution stated.
The court extended its condolences to the bereaved families, wishing a speedy recovery to those injured. “May the departed souls rest in peace,” the resolution added.
To honor the victims, all judges, lawyers, court staff, and visitors observed a two-minute silence across the premises, standing in solidarity with the grieving families.
In a swift response, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the attack site in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow on Wednesday to assess the situation firsthand. Arriving by helicopter, Shah conducted an aerial survey before walking through the area under heavy security.
He was briefed by top officials on the current security status and measures being taken to track the perpetrators. The visit underscored the Centre’s resolve to strengthen security across sensitive zones in Jammu and Kashmir following the tragic attack.
