The Gujarat government and the Uttarakhand government got a big relief from the Supreme Court on Monday. The Supreme Court dismissed a petition against the decision of Gujarat govt and Uttarakhand govt to set up a committee to implement the Uniform Civil Code.
During the hearing of the case, Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud asked the petitioner’s lawyer what was wrong with it? States have the right to form committees under Article 162 of the Constitution and this right cannot be challenged, CJI Said.
The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed against the decision of Gujarat govt and Uttarakhand govt to set up committees to implement the Uniform Civil Code. The petitioner had sought quashing of the decision to set up the committee.
