Supreme Court Rejects PIL on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Death Inquiry

The Supreme Court declined to entertain a petition filed by Pinaki Pani Mohanty, who sought an inquiry into the death of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The petitioner argued that the circumstances surrounding Bose’s death remained a “mystery” and that no conclusive evidence had been presented regarding his disappearance. Inputs provided by Special Correspondent Sambhav Sharma – read on for further details about the case in this article.

Court’s Stance on Political Matters
The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking an investigation into the death of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Justice Surya Kant, heading the bench, remarked that the Court was not equipped to handle every political or historical issue, emphasizing that such matters should be raised in the appropriate forums.

Bench’s Observations
The bench made it clear that the Supreme Court is not the forum for addressing every issue, particularly political matters. Justice Surya Kant suggested that if the petitioner was a political activist, they should take the issue up within their party. The Court stressed that its role is not to govern or act as a solution to every grievance.

Petitioner’s Claims
During the hearing, the petitioner argued that there has been no conclusive evidence regarding Netaji’s disappearance and raised doubts about his reported death in a 1945 plane crash. The petitioner contended that the mysterious circumstances surrounding Netaji’s death remain unresolved.
