CJI DY Chandrachud on Tuesday said that the Supreme Court has been working towards making the transcripts of court proceedings available in regional languages.
The CJI applauded the concept of live streaming of court proceedings during the eighth day of hearing of the same-sex marriage case and remarked that live streaming has taken court proceeding to the hearts and homes of the people.
People conversant in vernacular languages may not be able to understand them. This issue was raised by senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi.
The CJI after acknowledging this concern, assured that the Supreme Court is working on making transcripts available in regional languages immediately.
“Supreme court is not lost to it, and we are working on making the transcript available in regional languages immediately,” he said.
On February 21, this year, the Supreme Court began using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing technology for live transcription of its hearings in Constitution Bench cases. A screen facing the lawyers in the CJI’s courtroom displays the live transcript of court proceedings. The transcripts are also available on the Court’s website.
