Payal Maheshwari, wife of deceased gangster Sanjiv Maheshwari Jeeva, moved the Supreme Court on Thursday seeking permission to attend her husband’s funeral.
Sanjiv Maheshwari Jeeva was shot dead on the premises of a Lucknow court on Wednesday.
A bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose & Rajesh Bindal said that the Court will hear the matter and pass an order on Friday.
Jeeva was shot dead in Lucknow Civil Court on Wednesday. Reportedly a close associate of former UP MLA Mukhtar Ansari, who was an accused in the murder of senior BJP leader Brahm Dutt Dwivedi.
The Uttar Pradesh Additional Advocate General (AAG), Ardhendumauli K Prasad, informed the top Court that the case should be heard on Friday, while the petitioner’s counsel emphasized the significance of closure for Jeeva’s family, including his three sons and daughter.
The UP AAG further mentioned that the deceased gangster’s body may be taken to Muzaffarnagar, the family’s hometown, but highlighted that Payal herself is listed as a gangster in the gangster chart.
In response to the petitioner’s request for one day of protection to be able to join her family for the funeral rites, Justice Bose assured that the matter would be heard and appropriate orders would be issued on Friday.
Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh Advocate General (AG), Garima Prashad, stated that the state has no objections to the petitioner’s attendance at the funeral.
