Wildlife Conservation: SC Stays Construction of Laldhang-Chillarkhal Road

Laldhang-Chillarkhal Road

The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the construction of the Laldhang-Chillarkhal road. The Supreme Court gave clear instructions to the Uttarakhand government not to construct the road in the Laldhang-Chillarkhal area.

The committee appointed by the Supreme Court in its report had raised objections to the black topping (laying of coal tar) of the Laldhang-Chillarkhal road.
The report also said that this corridor connects Rajaji and Corbett Tiger Reserves and is used by tigers and elephants.

After which the court has issued the order taking cognizance of the report of the committee appointed by the Supreme. The CEC was set up by the Supreme Court while hearing a writ petition filed by advocate and wildlife conservation activist Gaurav Kumar Bansal.
