Justice TS Sivagnanam Takes Oath As Chief Justice of Calcutta HC

Justice TS Sivagnanam today took oath as the new Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court.

Governor CV Ananda Bose administered the oath. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was also present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari also participated in the programme. Suvendu was seen sitting next to Minister Firhaad Hakim & other TMC leaders.

The central government notified the appointment of Justice TS Sivagnanam (senior most judge of the Calcutta High Court), as the Chief Justice of the High Court.

Until now, he was serving as the acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court.

On February 9, the Supreme Court Collegium (SCC) recommended Justice Sivagnanam’s name for the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court.

According to media, addressing the gathering after the ceremony, the chief justice stated that he will not leave any stone unturned for ensuring the protection of the rights of the people of West Bengal that upholds democracy and the rule of law.
