BMW Hit-&-Run Case: Mumbai Court Remands Shiv Sena Leader To 14-Days Of Judicial Custody

Hit-&-Run Case

A Mumbai court on Monday remanded Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah to 14-day judicial custody in connection with a fatal BMW hit-and-run case involving his son, Mihir Shah, who is currently on the run.

Mihir Shah (24) allegedly drove the BMW that struck and killed Kaveri Nakhwa (45) and injured her husband Pradeep while they were riding a two-wheeler in Worli on Sunday morning.

The Shah family’s driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, was also arrested and sent to police custody until Tuesday by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S P Bhosale. Rajesh Shah, who owns the car, and Bidawat were accused of helping Mihir escape after the accident. They were produced before the court on Monday and booked under various charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

However, the court noted that the charge of culpable homicide did not apply to Rajesh Shah. Consequently, the politician was placed in 14-day judicial custody, while his driver was remanded to one-day police custody.

Mihir Shah remains absconding, and the police have formed 6 teams to apprehend him. A Look Out Circular (LOC) has also been issued to prevent him from leaving the country.

The incident occurred around 5:30 am on Sunday when Mihir allegedly lost control of the vehicle on Annie Besant Road in Worli, crashing into the couple’s two-wheeler. Following the accident, Mihir fled towards the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, leaving the car and Bidawat near Kala Nagar in Bandra before escaping.
