Imam’s Objection to Sunehri Bagh Mosque Removal Will Be Reviewed: NDMC to Delhi HC

Sunehri Bagh Masjid

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday stated it was not inclined to issue any directions regarding the proposed removal of the Sunehri Bagh Masjid. This decision came after the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) assured that the objections raised by the mosque’s Imam would be considered before making a final decision.

A single bench of Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav disposed of the petition filed by the Imam, Abdul Aziz, challenging a December 24, 2023, public notice by the NDMC. The notice had invited objections and suggestions from the public concerning the removal of the religious structure. The court took note of the Additional Solicitor General’s statement that the public’s objections would be considered according to the law.

“It is seen that at this stage, the authority concerned has to dwell upon the objections/suggestions invited pursuant to the public notice,” the judge observed.
