The producers of the film “Jailer,” starring Rajinikanth, have informed the Delhi High Court that they will digitally modify segments of the movie that depict a contract killer wearing the jersey of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cricket team.
Sun Pictures, the production company of the film, conveyed that the editing will be executed before the film’s release on television, satellite, or any Over-The-Top (OTT) platform, thereby eliminating the depiction of the killer wearing the RCB jersey.
This alteration in the theatrical version of the film is set to be completed by September 1, as informed to the Court.
“The Defendants as also all parties acting for or on their behalf including their distribution network shall be bound by the above terms and conditions. With effect from 1st September, 2023, in the theatrical depiction of the film ‘Jailer,’ the RCB team jersey shall stand edited/altered. The Defendants shall ensure that after 1st September, 2023, none of the theatres would exhibit the RCB jersey in any form whatsoever. Insofar as television, satellite or any OTT platform is concerned, prior to the release thereof, the altered version of the film shall be broadcasted/telecasted,” the order reads.
A single bench of Justice Prathiba M Singh was hearing a lawsuit filed by Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited, the owner of RCB.
RCB asserted that in the movie “Jailer,” there exists a scene where a contract killer is portrayed wearing the RCB jersey and making derogatory and misogynistic remarks about a woman character.
The contention put forth was that the unauthorized use of the RCB jersey in a negative context within the film could potentially undermine and belittle the RCB brand, causing harm to its brand reputation and the rights of its sponsors.
Subsequently, counsel for both parties conveyed to the Court that they had reached a resolution and agreed to digitally alter the scene in question.
The single bench duly recorded this commitment and disposed of the plea.
