Gujarat HC Begins Publishing Supreme Court Judgments In Vernacular

Gujarat HC

The Gujarat High Court has recently created a dedicated section for publishing of Gujarati-translated versions of Supreme Court judgments.

The Registrar General of the High Court issued a circular notifying this decision.

The service was launched with the permission of Acting Chief Justice AJ Desai and other judges on the High Court’s IT Committee, as well as the direction of the Supreme Court’s AI Assisted Legal Translation Advisory Committee.

“Under this new section on the homepage of the High Court website, the Translation Cell of the High Court of Gujarat would be directly uploading the Gujarati version of the orders/judgments through a software mechanism developed by the IT Cell of the High Court. The English version would also be directly accessible from this section for ready reference of the users,” the circular stated.

With the help of the Gujarat State Judicial Academy, the website will first post six Supreme Court judgments relating to Gujarat and involving public interest.

DY Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India, recently declared that the process of publishing Supreme Court judgments in regional languages had started.

Up till this point, around 2,900 verdicts have been translated into regional languages.

The high courts in Kerala, Delhi, Bombay, and Allahabad have already begun publishing their judgments in their vernacular language of their respective States.
