The Madras High Court has issued a notification making e-filing mandatory for District Courts handling cases arising under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
The Registrar General, M Jothiraman, announced that advocates and parties-in-person can file cases through the e-filing portal developed by the e-Committee of the Supreme Court of India, effective from July 7.
The notification emphasizes that the use of personal electronic devices for e-filing is encouraged. It also highlights that the Madras High Court’s detailed guidelines and tutorials, along with the user manual prepared by the Supreme Court e-committee, are available on the Madras High Court website.
In October 2021, the Supreme Court directed High Courts to implement mandatory e-filing for specific categories of cases, including suits for money recovery, complaints under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, maintenance applications, mutual consent divorce petitions, and bail applications.
