Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has recently issued an apology in the Rajasthan High Court for his “corruption in the judiciary” remarks that created a huge controversy.
Gehlot, in his written submission, stated that his remarks were “not his thoughts”, adding that he apologized if it caused any hurt.
The apology follows a month-long controversy that was triggered by Ashok Gehlot’s remarks on the judicial system.
Previously on August 30, the Chief Minister told reporters, “Corruption is rampant in the judiciary today. I have heard that some lawyers themselves take the judgement in writing and the same judgment is pronounced.”
His remarks sparked a strong backlash from the lawyers who called for a one-day strike in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur and filed a case against the Chief Minister. A PIL was also filed against him seeking contempt proceedings.
The PIL, which was listed for hearing on September 5, led to Gehlot clarifying his comments. He then stated that his remarks about corruption in the judiciary “were not his personal opinion”.
The Chief Minister later clarified that he has always respected and believed in the judiciary.
