Centre Notifies Elevation of 2 Additional Judges of Gauhati HC as Permanent Judges

The Central Government on Tuesday notified the appointment of two additional judges of the Gauhati High Court as permanent judges.

These elevations mark the first ones to be announced following the re-election of the Narendra Modi government for a third consecutive term on June 9.

According to a notification from the law ministry, Justices Susmita Phukan Khaund and Mitali Thakuria, who served as additional judges of the Gauhati High Court, have been appointed as judges of the same court with effect from the date they assume their respective offices.

On May 18, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the elevation of the two additional judges as permanent judges. As of June 1, the Gauhati High Court is operating with 24 judges, compared to its approved capacity of 30, leaving a vacancy of 6 positions.
