SC Collegium Recommends Name of Justice Tashi Rabstan as Meghalaya HC Chief Justice

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the name of Justice Tashi Rabstan as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.

This resolution was passed by the Collegium led by CJI D.Y. Chandrachud.

It comprised Justices Sanjiv Khanna, B.R. Gavai, Surya Kant, and Hrishikesh Roy as well.

Justice Rabstan is set to assume the role of Chief Justice following the retirement of the current Chief Justice, S. Vaidyanathan, on August 24. The Collegium noted that Justice Rabstan is the senior-most judge of the High Court for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and would be the first Chief Justice from the Ladakh region.

Justice Rabstan was born on April 10, 1963, in Skurbuchan, Leh Ladakh. He completed his graduation and LL.B. from the University of Jammu. Enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Jammu & Kashmir on March 6, 1990, he began his practice at the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

Appointed as an additional judge of the High Court in March 2013, he was made a permanent judge in May 2014. He also served as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in 2022.
