Tragedy in Bihar: Police Inspector Killed, Homeguard Injured in Clash with Alleged Liquor Smugglers

In Bihar’s Begusarai district, a police inspector lost his life, and a homeguard sustained serious injuries during an alleged attack by liquor smugglers.

The incident occurred during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday when the Naokothi Police Station in Begusarai received information about the transportation of liquor in a car. Attempting to halt the vehicle, the police team was met with resistance as the smugglers accelerated, striking the inspector and others, according to a statement from a senior police officer.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) for Begusarai, Yogendra Kumar, stated, “Begusarai’s Naokothi Police Station received information that liquor was being transported in a car. Based on the information, a night patrol vehicle was sent. At 12:30 am, to stop the car, inspector Khamas Chaudhary was standing with the police car near the Chhatauna Budhi Gandak river bridge along with three homeguards.”

Upon encountering the police presence, the driver of the car reportedly sped up, resulting in a collision with Inspector Khamas Chaudhary, leading to his unfortunate demise. One homeguard sustained injuries and has been hospitalized at Sadar Hospital, as per the SP.

The police have taken the owner of the car into custody, and efforts are underway to apprehend the accused individuals involved in the incident. SP Yogendra Kumar stated, “A special team has been formed. The team has arrested the owner of the vehicle. Interrogation is underway.”

Meanwhile, the injured homeguard, Balasaheb Yadav, recounted the events, stating, “A car came from behind and hit me… We were stationed at the Chhatauna Budhi Gandak river bridge. The incident happened at around 12:00 midnight… A total of four people were on duty. I was injured, while police inspector Khamas Chaudhary died.”
