An Army Court Martial has taken stringent action against a soldier who was found guilty of passing confidential military information to a Pakistani embassy staffer in the national capital. The court martial, led by a lady officer, handed down a jail sentence of 10 years and 10 months to the soldier. He was in communication with a Pakistani national named Abid Husain, alias Naik Abid, working at the High Commission for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in India.
The soldier provided the enemy spy agency with a list of documents, including the guard duty roster and activities of his own formation. He also attempted to pass on information about the formation’s vehicles and their movement during the Covid lockdown. However, the information accessed by the soldier was of trivial significance.
The Army is known for its zero-tolerance policy towards such actions, and the guilty soldier received an exemplary punishment. The sentence imposed by the court martial is subject to confirmation by senior authorities.
