Justice SV Gangapurwala Sworn In As Chief Justice Of Madras HC

Justice Sanjay Vijaykumar Gangapurwala has recently been sworn-in as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

Justice Gangapurwala administered the oath at the Raj Bhavan in Chennai by the Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi.

Following the Supreme Collegium’s recommendation, the President offered her nod for the appointment of SV Gangapurwala as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, and it was being notified by the Union Law Ministry.

Madras High Court hasn’t had a permanent Chief Justice since the last Chief Justice, retired on September 12, 2022. For the last 8 months, the senior most judges of the Madras High Court had been directed as its Acting Chief Justice.

Justice Gangapurwala was appointed as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court in 2010 and was appointed as its Acting Chief Justice last year.
