Actor Manoj Bajpayee’s upcoming film ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’ received a legal notice from Asaram Bapu on Wednesday.
Asaram sent the notice to the film’s makers via his charitable trust. In 2018, a trial court sentenced Asaram Bapu to life in jail for raping a kid at an ashram in Jodhpur in 2013.
The film’s trailer includes a disclaimer stating that it is based on true events. Deepak Kingrani wrote the courtroom drama ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’. It tells the story of a high court lawyer who single-handedly fought a rape case against a juvenile under the POCSO Act.
“Yes, we have received the notice. Our lawyers will decide the next step. We made a biopic on PC Solanki, for which I purchased the rights from him to make this film. If someone claims that the film is based on them, they are free to believe whatever they want. Only the film will be able to tell the truth, when it comes out,” Producer Asif Shaikh stated while speaking to the media.
According to the report, Asaram also sought the court to issue prohibitory orders prohibiting the film’s release and promotion. His lawyers stated that the film is very offensive and disparaging towards their client. They further stated that it could ruin his reputation and hurt the feelings of his followers.
Apoorv Singh Karki directed ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’ film. The film will be released on OTT platform ZEE5 on May 23rd. It is scheduled to be screened at the New York Indian Film Festival. Manoj will attend the May 13th special screening.
Manoj recently stated, “Playing PC Solanki in Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai has been a fantastic experience because it is the inspiring narrative of an ordinary guy who fought an exceptional case against all obstacles for truth and justice…I hope it appeals to the viewers and compels them to see this story of victory and what it required for PC Solanki to achieve what he did.”
