President Nominates Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, As Executive Chairman of NALSA

Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, the judge of the Supreme Court has been nominated by the President of India as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority.
However, Justice Kaul is the second senior judge of the Supreme Court. Justice DY Chandrachud, the present Chief Justice of India was the previous Executive Chairman of NALSA.
The post was being occupied by the second judge of the Supreme Court.
On November 25, the notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice read as that in exercise of the powers which are conferred under Clause (b) of sub-section (2) of Section 3 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, thus, the President is pleased to nominate Hon’ble Shri Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Judge, Supreme Court of India, as Executive Chairman, the National Legal Services Authority, with immediate effect.

The Chief Justice of India is the Patron-in-Chief of the NALSA, as per the Legal Services Authority Act 1987. A retired or serving judge of the Supreme Court of India is to be nominated by the President, in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, as the Executive Chairman.
